You caught us between builds. Since you’re here, I want to tell you why Nerd Out exists.

The best years of my working life began when I started building something of my own. I had wanted to for ages. The entrepreneur’s itch doesn’t go away. But back then, building software meant a steep learning curve or an expensive custom development bill, and most ideas died on the wrong side of that hurdle. I was lucky, and persistent enough, to get mine over: software for farmers, built nights and weekends at first, then full time. That company became Harvest Profit, and it’s now part of John Deere.

What surprised me was that the exit wasn’t the most rewarding part. It was a big win for our employees, for me, and for my family. But the real joy was in how work felt while I was building. I looked forward to every day. Real problems I cared about, for customers I loved working for. That feeling is the whole reason Nerd Out exists.

Because here’s what’s changed: you no longer need to become a developer or hire a team before you can build something useful. The tools, processes, and AI agents available today would have felt like science fiction when I started. The distance between “I have an idea” and “I have a working version” has never been shorter.

Building is the fun part. Now anyone can get to it.

Nerd Out is for people who can see a better way to work and want to be able to build it themselves. You don’t need to start a company to get there. The same technology that lets a founder ship a first product can make the job you already have more fulfilling. Automate the repetitive work, take on the projects nobody else can, and become the person on your team who makes things happen. That’s not a consolation prize. It’s how you earn trust, take on better work, and create momentum in your career.

That said, I’ll always lean toward the entrepreneurial side, because I’ve lived what’s on the other side of it. If there’s an idea you keep coming back to, you can have a working first version before your conviction has time to fade. And if you run a small business already, the same tools can clear away the admin chaos and give you back the part of the work you love.

I’m not doing this alone, either. I started Nerd Out with Jaryd Krishnan and Brian Pattison, two of the most skilled developers I’ve ever worked with. Watching them bring AI into their own work, and seeing how energized they are by what it makes possible, convinced me of something: when builders that good are this excited, it isn’t hype. Something fundamental has changed.

I’ve sat through plenty of AI demos that looked impressive and left me with no idea what to do next. I don’t want Nerd Out to be another one of those. If we spend ninety minutes together, you should leave with something useful on your screen, not a list of things to try later.

Nerd Out workshops are working sessions, not presentations. You don’t need to know how to code or arrive with a polished idea. You bring one part of your work that needs to be better. It might be the back-office chaos in a business you run, the repetitive part of a job you otherwise enjoy, or the first working piece of a company you want to start. We spend ninety minutes building a better version together, and I explain what I’m doing as we go so you can keep using and improving it after the workshop.

A workshop doesn’t have to launch a company to matter. A calmer week in a small business is worthwhile. So is automating the task that eats your Tuesday, or shipping the first version of an idea you’ve carried around for years. Every one of those is a build, and every build makes the next one easier.
