About Nerd Out
Nerd Out runs live AI and systems workshops and publishes free tools for people who run small businesses. It was started by Nick Horob, Jaryd Krishnan, and Brian Pattison, who spent the last decade building software with a small team and a small budget.
Nick Horob and Jaryd Krishnan built Harvest Profit into a leading farm-management software business with a six-person team and $280,000 in outside funding. They competed with companies employing 10 to 20 times more people and, in some cases, raising roughly 100 times more capital. John Deere acquired Harvest Profit in 2020.
Nerd Out carries forward the same belief: stay close to the problem, use technology well, and build genuinely useful products without a bloated team or budget.
Founder
Nick built Harvest Profit, software for farmers, on nights and weekends before taking it full time. It became a leading farm-management product and is now part of John Deere. He writes every tool and worksheet in the free resource library, publishes the Nerd Out on Business newsletter, and hosts most Nerd Out workshops.
Co-founder and principal engineer
Jaryd helped build Harvest Profit into the business John Deere acquired. He works on the AI systems behind the Nerd Out tools and co-hosts the build sessions.
Co-founder
Brian is one of the two developers Nick started Nerd Out with, and has spent his career shipping software. He builds AI into the everyday work of making products.
Every calculator, template, and worksheet in the library does the whole job before it asks for an email address. That is on purpose. We would rather you use the thing, decide whether it was any good, and come to a workshop because the free version already helped.
Each one comes out of a real problem a business owner brought to a build session. When a workshop produces something worth keeping, we rebuild it as a tool anyone can use.
